Objective
The goal of the Project is to develop new generation of valuable polymers and polymeric materials for the biotechnological and biomedical implementation using new approaches for the fabrication of smart polymers with specifically adjusted characteristics. In this respect, it is planned to investigate the potential of cryotropic gelation as the method to prepare supermacroporous cryogels with thermo-(and/or pH)-sensitivity, to study the influence of foreign dispersed fillers on the morphology, rheological and swelling characteristics of filled cryogels, to synthesize polyelectrolyte hydrogels with imbedded voids, to develop and produce temperature-sensitive hydrogels with controlled hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance, as well as the hybrid hydrogels, to investigate in detail thermophysical characteristics of new gel materials with highly sensitive DSC methods, to study physico-mechanical properties of the materials obtained with modern physical methods, to investigate the biocompatibility of new materials.
The compulsory important part of the Project is the examination of the polymers developed in the biotechnological areas (bioseparation, immobilization, cell culture, drug delivery) and to look forward for the new application areas. The realization of the target goal of this interdisciplinary Project is possible only with a combination of the expertise of polymer synthetic chemists, specialists in polymer physical chemistry and theory, biomedical scientists and biotechnologists. New materials as well as basic knowledge about their properties and production will be the Project outcome.
