Design and development of digital communication equipment for telecommunications and telemedicine applications

Objective

The objective of this project is to design and develop a telecommunication terminal station to be used in rural-area telecommunication and telemedicine applications. The telecommunication terminal unit to be developed will provide connection up to 30 vice-digital channels and will use standard PCM techniques to transmit signals in UHF channels. The design and development will be carried out in co-operation between research groups from west Europe and Armenia and Georgia. A topic of high interest is to develop a telemedicine terminal unit using the communication system to be developed. A holder telecardiology unit using advanced signal techniques will be employed. The integration of the system will take place in Armenia and field trials will be carried out with the co-operation of all participating research groups.

The principal tasks of the project are: to design and develop rural communication units to provide services with reliability and versatility; to design and develop novel telemedicine units to use as a transmission medium the terrestrial link to be developed; and to verify the operation of the system through field trials.
