Organosilicon precursor to modified SiC or Si3N4 base materials

Objetivo

The elaboration of silicon carbide and carbonitride based materials remains an important challenge in order to make high-performance ceramics which exhibit exceptional properties under severe environmental conditions. The approach from organosilicon precursors appears to be very attractive for many purposes such as fibres, matrixes, especially when they are elaborated from liquid polymers. Each group of specialists in the synthesis of organosilicon monomers (carbosilanes containing or not containing nitrogen, and eventually other doping elements), organosilicon polymers (polysilanes, polycarbosilanes) with specialists in solid state chemistry for the conversion of organometallic precursors into inorganic materials will study the correlation between the composition and the structure of organometallic precursors and the composition, structure and properties of resulting materials according to the modification of the precursors.

The target of this research is the development of a new class of advanced precursors giving inorganic residues in high yields (> 80 %) to obtain ceramics (SiC, Si3N4, Si/C/N) as fibres, composites or adhesive compositions for working at temperatures of up to 1400 degrees C (in the presence of nitrogen) or 1500-1600 degrees for SiC-based materials.
