Objective
An important branch of supramolecular chemistry is the chemistry of ionophores, molecules possessing high affinity toward metal cations in solution. Their ability to bind cations selectively is widely used in practice for the separation and concentration of metals (solvent extraction) and in analytical devices such as ion-selective electrodes and sensors.
A comprehensive study of new ionophores will be undertaken, based on the organophosphorous podands including the synthesis, experimental and theoretical investigation of their complexation, extraction and transport properties, and their application in analytical devices and liquid extraction.
