Developing ideas of microstrip detector and readout electronics assembly using flexible microcables for high energy physics experiments

Objective

These developments could provide the ALICE experiment with a viable solution to match its conflicting needs of high granularity and low mass, since it would allow the construction of fine grained silicon-detectors with a minimum of material in addition to the sensors themselves. This is a vital element for ALICE, but has raised considerable interest also from other high energy physics experiments requiring high resolution for relatively low momentum particles. This proposal requests support to go from the proof-on-principle, which has already established, to R&D of the prototype detector+microcables+electronics system and measure its performance and stability in beam tests, in order to define the design parameters of the experiment.
