Objective
The main goals of the work: Increasing the efficiencies of concentrator solar cells based on GaAs-heterostructures to more than 26 % for single junction and more than 30 % for tandems. Increasing the module efficiency and decreasing the cost of electric power in photovoltaic installations with concentrators.
Research activities: Development of new solar cell structures and new technological approaches, including low-temperature liquid phase epitaxy, MOCVD-technology and diffusion method. Development of new types of concentrators including Fresnel lenses, the aspheric polymeric lenses and parabolic troughs concentrators. Development of high efficiency and low cost photovoltaic modules with concentrators. Development of photovoltaic installation with increased efficiency and decreased cost of solar electricity.
Expected results: Achievement of efficiencies of more than 26-27% (AM 1.5d) for single junction solar cells at 50-500 suns and more than 30% (AM 1.5d) for tandem solar cells. Fabrication of photovoltaic modules with an efficiency of more than 20 % (AM 1.5d) with different types of solar cells and concentrators. Decreasing the cost of solar electricity down to 2.5-3 per 1 W installed in the terrestrial photovoltaic installation based on high efficiency concentrator modules.
