Objective
The main objective of the project is to develop a new fabrication scheme for ceramic matrix composites which is planned to be achieved by solving a number of particular scientific and technological problems.
In particular, the objectives of the project are:
- To adjust the internal crystallization method developed earlier for metal matrix composites to the project issue;
- To study dependencies between the composite microstructure and mechanical properties;
- To optimize the fabrication scheme to meet requirements to organize the microstructure yielding maximum values of the fracture toughness and strength characteristics at high temperatures.
The acievement of the main objective of the project allows to contribute to:
- An enhancement of thermal efficiency of various engines (diesels, gas turbines, etc) and electricity generators (turbines, nuclear reactors, etc), with corresponding reduction of the fuel consumption;
- A partial replacement of metals in structural materials by elements of less shortage on the Earth;
- Combining in one material two or more function, just one of them being carrying the mechanical load;
- Relaxing the environmental problems.
The expected results are to be presented in papers to be published in scientific journals and submitted to conferences.
