Vehicle Tele-operation System For Application To Entertainment, Research And Remote Interventions

Objetivo

This project intends the development of a highly efficient vehicle teleoperation system for remote interventions, entertainment and research applications. TELEDRIVE project makes a separation of roles in the teleoperation activity; vehicle operator/supervisor/virtual passengers. The operator is the person who tele-drives the remote vehicle. The supervisor is the person who controls the operation of the tools, system or end-effector installed on the remote vehicle (remote interventions) or just receives data from the sensors and cameras installed on the vehicle and checks operational safety (entertainment applications). Virtual passengers are the persons, who installed in a cabin named showroom, (being the cabin mounted on a motion base) receive images from the remote vehicle and also motion stimuli by the replication of the remote vehicle motion done by the showroom motion base.

Objectives:
This project will end with a prototype demonstrator of the technology. The system to be developed in this project is formed by:
-A multi-sensory operator control station, generating audio, visual and kinesthic stimuli;
-A showroom for virtual passengers, generating audio, visual and kinesthetic stimuli;
-A multi-sensory supervisor station, generating audio, visual and kinesthetic stimuli (depending on the specific application);
-A remotely operated vehicle (adaptation of commercial one) suitable for the specific project application;
-Communication links (RF, INTERNET and/or GPRS) between vehicle and operator/supervisor/showroom stations.

Work description:
The project is divided into a number of work-packages and tasks:
WP1: SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS:
Task 1.1 Analysis of user requirements;
Task 1.2 Definition of system specifications/selection of project demonstrator;
Task 1.3 Safety regulations, standards and patents;
Task 1.4 Establishment of test procedures
WP2: DESIGN OF SUBSYSTEMS:
Task 2.1 Design and development of pilot/supervisor control stations and showroom;
Task 2.2 Instrumentation on real vehicle;
Task 2.3 Imaging system;
Task 2.4 Communication system for information transmission/reception;
Task 2.5 Control software;
WP3: SYSTEM INTEGRATION AND TESTING:
Task 3.1 Physical integration of sub-systems;
Task 3.2 Test of system performance;
Task 3.3 Evaluation of test results and feedback on design;
WP4: INVESTIGATION OF EXPLOITATION OPTIONS:
Task 4.1 Investigation of exploitation strategies;
Task 4.2 Patents and protection of project results;
WP5: ORGANISATION OF TRAINING SESSIONS FOR SME's PARTNERS:
Task 5.1 Training sessions for the SME's;
WP6: PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
Task 6.1 Project management.

Milestones:
The project finishes with a prototype fully operative. There is a milestone at month 12, having the following results:
IR-1: Report on the selected application(s) for demonstration, patents, system specifications and test procedures;
IR-2: Design of operator/supervisor control stations and showroom;
IR-3: Imaging system;
IR-4: Communication system;
IR-5: Control software. Also including the following demo: Computer simulation of the projected system structure: ROV+control stations+communication system.
