European wind turbine database and implementation of a European database "Eusefia" on wind turbine failures

Objective

The objective is to provide the Commission of the European Communities, DG XII and the wind energy community with significant statistical information to form an opinion about the development of European wind energy technology and application. Besides standardised evaluations which are carried out continuously in regard to energy production, installed capacity, market analysis, further special investigations covering economics, energy pay-back and failure analysis will be carried out drawing on increased knowledge of the general development of European wind energy technology.


The EUROWIN database is now in its 6th year since the project was started in August 1985. At the end of the year 1991 there were nearly 3500 windturbines with an installed capacity of nearly 400MW stored in the database. EUROWIN provides relevant information about the development of the European wind energy technology based on the performance data of operational windturbines which are located within the European Community.
The EUROWIN project can be regarded as a European network with an increasing cooperation between the participating project partners. The results are being mostly presented as conferance contributions, publications in wind energy journals and CEC reports. Finally the EUROWIN study "Performance of European Wind Turbines" could be finished and published in December 1991 at Elsevier Ltd., London. This book summarises the most important results betwen 1986 and 1989 and shows the successful progress since starting the project. Last publication were the "EUROWIN Annual Reports 1990 + 1991, distributed by FhG-ISE and participants.
