Targeting and design methodology for reduction of fuel, power and CO2 on total sites

Process optimisation should be viewed as a total site issue. This project developed a novel methodology supported by computer modelling capable of lowering CO2 emissions by simultaneous optimisation of production processes and site wide utility systems. Large industrial sites use significant quantities of heat, power and cooling water and are therefore responsible for significant resource use, and the generation of large quantities of CO2 . The simultaneous optimisation of all the processes generating or utilising these at the site level, will lead to significant cost and pollution savings. The aim of this project was to develop a software supported methodology that considers large industrial plant or even several plants as a "total site", and aims to optimise both the industrial process and the site utilities simultaneously. The objective of the project was to achieve reduced energy demand, reduced cooling water need and where possible implement co-generation in order to make cost saving and reduce pollutant emissions.
