Definition of economic reference frameworks for the management of natural habitats

Objective

Objectives: establish, bring together and distribute the economic reference frameworks for the management of identified natural habitats, targeted by the preservation policies of local authorities.

Expected results: through technical assistance for the management departments of the natural habitats, notably those of the local authorities, favourising the consideration of the natural habitats and their role in the development of the country.

The purpose of the project is to provide economic reference frameworks for the management of natural environments which plays a major part in maintaining the territory's equilibrium.

The project will consist in gathering existing technical experiences regarding at least 5 main types of basic natural environment which usually make up natural sites forming the so-called 'natural infrastructures' of the territory;
- wet alluvial and flood meadows,
- mires and fens,
- plain calcareous grasslands,
- Mediterranean sheep pastures,
- Atlantic heathlands.

The project is to be phased in three stages:
- Gathering of management practices: trough bibliographical research and surveys conducted among natural site managers, to be followed by additional field surveys performed by a representative.

Economic assessment:
The data will be entered in a cost analysis framework allowing comparisons to be made. The approach to cost analysis will be specifically adjusted to the context under review. The aim should not be the working out of set scales but the production of calculation grids including parameters likely to vary from one area to the next.

Result production and technical assistance:
The result shall be supplied in the shape of a practical guidebook presenting modes and methods of calculation easy to use, as well as existing technical and geographical variants. Graphic examples will supplement the guidebook. These results will also be available in a server and in a software which should help people to choose practises according to their cost, their advantages and to the context.
