Objective
1.- TO STUDY THE ARTIFICIAL THERMOLUMINESCENCE OF QUARTZ IN VARIOUS TYPES OF DEPOSITS.
2.- TO APPLY THE TECHNIQUE FOR THE EXPLORATION OF VEINS AND GRANITOIDS MINERALISATIONS USING THE TLA PROPERTIES OF QUARTZ IN DETRITAL OR SEDIMENTARY DEPOSITS.
THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE TL PROPERTIES OF QUARTZ ASSOCIATED WITH MINERALISATION AS WELL AS THEIR DESTRUCTION IN SUPERFICIAL OR DETRIAL DEPOSITS WILL BE TESTED FOR EXPLORATION PURPOSES. ARTIFICIAL OR INDUCED TL WILL BE APPLIED BECAUSE:
- NATURAL TL, USUALLY APPLIED, NOT ONLY DEPENDS ON THE CRYSTALLISATION CONDITIONS BUT ALSO ON THE RADIATIVE AND THERMAL HISTORY,
- INDUCED TL EXHIBITS A MORE COMPLETE GLOW CURVE THAN NATURAL TL WITH MANY PEAKS ALLOWING A GOOD DISCRIMINATION BETWEEN QUARTZ OF SEVERAL ORIGINS,
- ARTIFICIAL TL ALLOWS THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE SIGNAL INTENSITY AND SO TO MEASURE TL FROM ONE QUARTZ GRAIN IN SEDIMENTARY ENVIRONMENTS (ARTIFICIAL MICRO TL).
THE RESEARCH WILL BE DIVIDED INTO:
1) METHODOLOGICAL STUDY OF TREATMENT AND IRRADIATION PARAMETERS WITH A VIEW TO PUTTING THE CRYSTALLISATION CONDITIONS IN A CONSPICUOUS POSITIONS;
2) STUDY OF THE TLA PROPERTIES OF QUARTZ IN A MINERALISED DISTRICT WITH GRANITOID AND VEIN-TYPES DEPOSITS.(NORTH-LIMOUSIN PROVINCE WHERE VARIOUS TYPES OD FEPOSITS (U, W-SN, AU) ARE FOUND)
3) STUDY OF THE MICRO TLA PROPERTIES OF QUARTZ GRAINS IN THE STREAM SEDIMENTS AND THE SUPERFICIAL FORMATIONS IN ORDER TO SEARCH FOR QUARTZ INDICATORS OF MINERALISATION.
IN ADDITION COMPLEMENTARY STUDIES BY ELECTRON SPIN RESONANCE (ESR) WOULD BA CARRIED OUT ON SOME SAMPLES SELECTED BY THEIR TYPICAL GLOW CURVES. ESR WILL ALLOW THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE CENTERS (LATTICE DEFECTS) IN RELATIONS WITH THE CONDITIONS OF CRYSTALLISATION AND ON WHICH DEPEND THE TL PROPERTIES.
COLLABORATION IS FORESSEN WITH IGS DURING THE FIRST STEP FOR AN INTERCOMPARISON OF DIFFERENT TL TECHNIQUES AND FOR RECOMMENDING A STANDARDISED ANALYTICAL PROCEDURE. DURING STEPS 2 AND 3, TL METHODS WILL BE APPLIED IN TWO MINERALISED TEST SITES S.SCOTLAND N. WALES). A MULTIDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION IS ALSO FORESEEN WITH CNRS AND CEA WHICH HAVE ACCUMULATED NUMEROUS GEOCHEMICAL DATA IN LIMOUSIN.
