Objective

HAPAC (Hunter Autonomous Power Generation and Acoustic Control) project aim is to demonstrate an "umbilicalless" control system suitable for subsea developments in shallow or deep water environment on a live subsea well for example, DUNBAR SOUTH Early Production System.
Integration of Sparcs and Hapac projects operations, allocating specific tasks and budgets to each project while keeping the 2 contracts clearly distinct. Choice of a thermo-generator to provide electrical power. Change of final test and demonstration field location : Dunbar South or Grant.
Successful continuous trial in Cherbourg wet dock during the months of July, August and September of the complete assembly : valve actuators, thermo generator, electrical power storage, acoustic transmission.
Taking the opportunity of the DUNBAR SOUTH subsea development, an autonomous power generation and acoustic control system, called HAPAC, will be qualified.
The objective is to demonstrate the reliability of the prototype and, on a long term basis, its ability to replace umbilical. Among the technologies intended to be tested, the power generator consists of a Thermoelectric generator installed on the main flow line generating sufficient power (160 watts) for the subsea control system consumption.
Communications with the well will be performed by acoustics, first between the well and the platform and later on by mooring a buoy above the well. In that case the buoy will exchange acoustics signals with the well and satellite signals with DUNBAR platform.
