MULTIPHASE INTEGRATED FLOWMETER FOR ON-LINE WELL TESTING

Objective

The aim of the project is to demonstrate through extensive field tests the reliability and the accuracy of an innovative multiphase metering developed for the well testing and field management.
The fluid to be metered is a three phase mixture of crud oil of known composition. The system will be able to measure the flow rates of each component (oil, water, gas) with an accuracy comparable with the accuracy obtained with the actual test separators.
The system will be innovative since it not require any phase separation and all the main components are innovative for this specific application.
All the activities have been completed. The test loop has shown a good performance to test multiphase metering as well as other multiphase components and to collect field data for the code qualification. The multiphase integrated flow meter has shown a different accuracy on the flow rates (oil, water, gas) measurement. Basically the relative error on these parameters is the range +/- 20%. In order to apply to the well testing measurements the developed multiphase flow meter it is necessary to improve its accuracy.
The project will be divided in the following five phases :
1. Single instruments design, fabrication and laboratory calibration
2. System integration and laboratory qualification of the integrated prototype.
3. Trecate field test facility design, construction and erection
4. Field tests of the integrated prototype
5. Results analysis.
The field prototype will look like a "Spool pice" and it will be easily installed in a new system as well as in existing flow lines. It will be assembled in a vertical configuration and the ridings of the single instruments will be analysed by a computing system which will provide the flow-rates of each phase (oil, water, gas) and the flow ratios (GLR, WC). The single instruments and the integrated system will be calibrated first in the laboratory loops, then the integrated system will be tested extensively in the Trecate test loop in real condition with crud oil. In the Trecate field an already existing test loop used to test multiphases pumps, willbe upgraded mainly with additional flow lines to generate slug flow at the multiphase metering inlet and with a "new interface skid". This skid will form the reference single phase metering station and it will allow to change the flow rates and flow regimes at the inlet of the multiphase metering. The new skid will be integrated with the existing test loop and with the production plant in such away to allow the utilisation for the tests of other components already available in the area like, multiphase pump, tests separators, air coolers, etc.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
