Objective
NOVEL ANTIBACTERIALS will be obtained from screens that use existing and novel assays based on recent knowledge on bacterial division. New knowledge derives from the application of novel technologies (genomic, bio informatics, structural biology, screening technologies). Natural product, synthetic compound, and "biased" chemical libraries will be screened to select candidate molecules for development as novel antibiotics. Results on the biochemical activities of targeted division proteins, and on their structures will provide structure-activity relationship data for the chemical optimisation of lead compounds. Two leading pharmaceutical companies guarantee the link between the generation of results and the ability to exploit them for the benefit of the end consumer.
