A european network of excellence : molecular control of erythropoiesis

Objective

Red blood cells are produced in the bone marrow in a process called erythropoiesis. Proper functioning of red blood cells is essential for life, since these cells carry out the oxygen transport throughout the body. The anomies are a consequence of insufficient numbers of functional red blood cells and are a major cause of disease in the EC. Hereditary anomies are the most common genetic disorder in the human population. At present, there is no effective treatment for this group of diseases. In this AM we will organize a start-up meeting to prepare a proposal for a European Network of Excellence "Molecular control of erythropoiesis" under the 6th framework. The aim of this network is to develop novel therapeutic modalities to treat patients suffering from disorders of red blood cells.
