Objective
Demonstration and monitoring of a new technology highly cost-efficient 800 kW wind turbine at the village of Kaltohmfeld, Germany. The turbine will be installed July 1998 next to the Testfield of Windtest Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog Gmbh, Schleswig-Holstein for monitoring and operation. Dissemination in order to change the present wind turbine market situation and significantly reduce the hardware-cost of wind energy. Innovative marketing concept through licensing which enables small manufacturers to build a profitable megawatt-size turbine.
Turbine tests successful, operation tests successful.
1. Innovative Technology :
Initially 800 kW wind turbine with active stall control; during the course of the design several steps have been gone through. The final design of the turbine is :
- 1500 kW nominal power output; 11,6 m/s rated wind speed, cut out 25m/s
- full-span pitch control 70 diameter C/GRE (carbon/ epoxy) rotor prepreg method
- three point suspension load transmission to the mainframe
- double fed asynchronous (var.speed 1000-2000 rpm)
- IGBT technology inverter, low flicker number, very good grid characteristics
- electric single-blade pitch
- prototype tower height 65m.
2. Context of the Project :
Initial installation at Kaltohmfeld, Thuringia, however final installation next to the testfield of the company Windtest, co-owned by Germanischer Lloyd. The wind data are some of the best-known/ measured in Germany.
3. Economic Aspects :
Highly cost-efficient wind turbine for its size. In a comparison study performed, this turbine surpasses the megawatt turbines of most other european or non-european manufacturers. Monitoring shall be performed by Windtest of Germanisher Lloyd
