Development of design tool for larger solar hot water systems to dimension the components and calculate the economy in a unform way

Objective

Development of a normalized method for design of large solar hot water systems in order to support sellers with a more professional tool for making competetive offers and to support investors in achieving confidence in the predicted economy.

Technical and cost specifications of the components used by the manufacturers are input for the method. This enables comparison between quotations of different manufacturers. The design tool also features economic optimization of the system layout.

Results of the project are:
- A software package to design large solar hot water systems, using manufacturers component specifications as input and presenting results (economy and system layout) in a uniform way.
- A method to improve the quality of large solar hot water systems by economic optimization of the system layout.
- A tool that forms the basis for a European design tool for large solar hot water systems and for future certification of large solar hot water systems at a design stage.

In the development of the method, the theoretical expertise in this field is combined with the practical experience of sellers and investors. In this way, it is believed that quality and economy of large solar hot water systems will improve.
