Developing Appliance Information Systems for Europe

Objective

The aim of the project is to extend an Information System for household applainces in the following ways:
- providing an operating platform, which is more compatible with existing systems (Windows based)
- changing the working language from Danish to English to facilitate translations into other European languages
- allowing the Information System to be networked and used with other programmes
- allowing energy labelling data to be added as these are agreed at EU level.

Participating members would translate the user interface, collect data and trial the system in their country (UK, Portugal, Austria and Sweden). The potential would exist for this system to be replicated in any other member state provided that the data could be collected and collated.
Assuming that the Information Systems influence consumers to buy an appliance one energy grade lower, potential savings within the EU could be 1 TWh per annum initially and 15 TWh per annum ultimately.
