Descripción del proyecto Advanced Robotics Mostrar el objetivo del proyecto Ocultar el objetivo del proyecto The purpose of the project is to provide mobile robotics platforms with advanced mapping and navigation systems based on a very accurate positioning and 3D measurement technology. This concept will be developed and implemented as a key component for robotic applications for quality and dimensional control, ambience monitoring inspection and advanced navigation. Applications will be deployed for operation in large areas and within congested human environments. Operation within a network of co-operative robots will be considered. The 3D measurement technology, named LIMS (LIDAR Imaging and Measurement System) is based on an innovative concept of real time measurement of position in presence of sparse regular objects. The measurement technology principles based on three eye-safe laser systems were originated in IAI-Lahav and are patent pending. The main objective of the project is to develop and integrate an accurate 3D sensing system as a modular component for robotics platforms, enabling fast dense mapping of large areas, populated with sparse objects. The project will demonstrate its application and integration as modular positioning and measurement component (LIMS). When integrated in mobile platforms this component will allow mapping large areas, in real time and reasonable speed (5m/s).During the project, and due the map accuracy, the LIMS will be used to recover the position of the robot related to the environment by using natural landmarks, through the comparison of the actual 3D map with previous 3D maps already stored. This operation will be complemented with reflectance and video data to increase information and robustness. Since the positioning and mapping will not rely on absolute positioning systems, the application can be used indoors as well as outdoors environments.The project will develop and demonstrate the LIMS on high demanding application as an Intelligent Robotic Porter System (IRPS) to help porting guiding the public in airport areas.
