Final Report Summary - ORANOS (Organic Nanospintronics)
In spintronics, information is processed in the form of spin polarisation of charges. The ORANOS project has explored how the properties of hybrid interfaces between carbon-based materials and ferromagnets may be utilised to tune spin-polarized transport in devices. The effect of orbital hybridisation and charge transfer at interfaces between carbon-based molecules and ferromagnetic thin films have been studied with synchrotron-based electron spectroscopic techniques. The electronic and magnetic structure of the interfaces strongly depend on the chemical interactions that occur. In spintronic devices, these interfaces show pronounced tunnelling anisotropic magnetoresistance effects.
