Engineered Sequence-Specific RNases: New Reagents for RNA biotechnology

Objective

The basic idea to be taken to the proof of concept is creation of novel molecular biology tools, ie. enzymes acting on DNA/RNA hybrids and dsRNA that are able to cut the RNA strand(s) in a site specific manner. We have already created prototypic proteins of those two classes of ‘RNA restriction enzymes’ and performed initial steps towards commercialization of the project. We are applying for funding to 1) ensure the best available patent protection, 2) finish the prototypes and validate the approach and 3) perform detailed market research.
