Objective Dehydration of vegetable products can be very complex given great variations in humidity content. The resulting excessive desiccation of the product not only means a greater cost from energy used but also degradation of the products nutritional content and weight loss which is seen in the final price of the product and in a reduction in the SME s competitivity. This project proposes the following operational objectives to achieve the automatic control in the industrial processes of rotary vegetal driers. Develop a prototype reliable measurement sensor for protein and humidity. Develop a family of process models and algorithms. To design a real time controller system to satisfy the problem specifications. To achieve the results the work will be split into 7 Workpackages WP 6 of technical content,1 diffusion and 1 management. The technical section has three development phases:Phase l project specification WP1;Phase ll sensor development and controller design WP2 WP3;Phase lll control prototype development WP4 integrating the phase ll developments. Finally WP5 to validate previous Workpackage results. The consortium comprises 5 SMEs from 5 countries and 2 RTD performers from those countries. OLIVER end user and project co-ordinator and MAGUIN also an end user are SME specialists in drying forage and other feedstuff products UST German specialist in drying cereals onions and other vegetables herbs and hay. The remaining SMEs are industrial suppliers DRTS U K specialist company in sensor Amp real time control system design and innovation and MAGUI a French rotary drier manufacturer for the forage industry and JAVY Czech company specializing in drying equipment for the agrofood industry. The RTD Performers are CETENA Spain an Industrial RTD Centre with experience in modelling simulation Amp automation of agrofood processes and GLAMORGAN University UK highly skilled in real time IT control systems and sensor development...
