APPLICATIONS OF NEW SPINNING TECHNOLOGIES IN THE WOOL INDUSTRY - WOOL AND ASSOCIATED FIBRES.

Objective

DEVELOPMENT OF NEW SPINNING PROCESSES FOR WORSTED WOOL AND BEHAVIOUR OF THE WOOL FIBRE IN OPEN-END SPINNING AFTER INVESTIGATION INTO PRESENT PROCESS STATE.
PREPARATION OF CARD SLIVER FOR ITS DIRECT USE IN OPEN-END SPINNING. ANALYSIS OF IMPURITIES AND DUST DEPOSITS RESPONSIBLE FOR YARN DEFECTS.

THE DRAFT FORESEES AN ITF INVOLVEMENT IN THE FOUR PARTS OF THE PROGRAMME:

1. INQUIRY INTO THE USE OF OPEN-END TECHNIQUES

2. STUDY OF MODIFICATIONS TO BE BROUGHT TO PROCESSES AND MACHINERY.

2.1 PREPARATION OF WOOL TOP.

2.2 STUDIES OF THE ADAPTATION OF THE I.T.G. 300 TO THE WORSTED SPINING SCHEME.

3. CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL TESTS ON MATERIALS AND YARNS

3.1 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICO-CHEMICAL STUDIES ON WOOL FIBRES; STUDIES OF CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THE PERCENTAGE AND THE NATURE OF EXTRACTABLE MATTERS AND THEIR BEHAVIOUR DURING THE OPEN-END SPINNING OPERATION.

3.2 ANALYSIS OF DUST DEPOSITS IN THE ROTORS AND ON THE YARNS.

4. STUDY OF WOOL FIBRE BEHAVIOUR AT THE TIME OF THE OPEN-END SPINNING OPERATION.
