COMPARISON, EVALUATION AND OPTIMISATION OF URBAN WASTE TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY.

Objetivo



THE PROPOSED RESEARCH SHOULD PROVIDE DATA TO ALLOW A DETAILED PROCESS COMPARAISON TO BE MADE OF TWO TREATMENT OPTION:
- FLUIDISED BED GASIFICATION AND,
- COMBUSTION (MASS GRAVITY AND SPRINKLER/ SPREADER STOESTOKER
STOKER AND FLUIDISED BED).).
THE EXPEIMENTAL WORK WILL BE UNDERTAKEN USING THE EXISTING EQUIPMENT WHICH WILL BE MODFIED TO PROVIDE NECESSARY OPERATIONAL UNITS. TWO DIFFERENT SIZE SCALE FLUIDISED BED FACILITIES WILL BE USED IN THE EXPERIMENTAL WORK. A SIMULATION TEST FACILITY WHICH WAS CONSTRUCTED TO EXAMINE COAL COMBUSTION WILL BE ALTERED TO ACCEPT URBAN WASTE FEED AND USED FOR THE COMBUSTION TRIALS. DENSIFIED AND RDF AND SINGLE PARTICLE THERMOGRAVIMETRIC STUDIES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO COMPLEMENT THE LARGER SCALE WORK EMPLOYING AVAILABLE 'IN-HOUSE' EQUIPMENT.NT.
EXISTING THERMODYNAMIC MODELS DEVELOPED FOR BIOMASS/GASIFICATION URBAN WASTE FIRING WILL BE MODIFIED AND EXTENDED TO PROVIDE INSIGH ON THE TWO SPECIFIC TREATMENT ROUTES: GASIFICATION AND COMBUSTION.
ENGINEERING ASSESSMENT OF BOTH PROCESS ROUTES WILL BE PRODUCED AND CONCLUSIONS DRAWN ON COMMERCIAL APPLICABILITY. ENVIRONMENTAL EMISSIONS (SOLID AND GASEOUS) FROM THE TWO PROCESS ROUTES WILL BE COMPARED. COMPARATIVE COSTS WILL BE DEVELOPED FOR TYPICAL COMMERCIAL-SCALE FACILITIES.
