ANALYTICAL CAPABILITY FOR PREDICTING STRUCTURAL RESPONSE OF NPP CONCRETE CONTAINMENTS TO SEVERE LOADS.

Cel

THE STUDY AIMS TO PROVIDE A REVIEW OF THE THERMOMECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR OF CONCRETE AND TO DETERMINE THE CONDITIONS OF PROBLEMS WHICH ARE TO BE SOLVED , THAT IS, THE DEMANDS IMPOSED ON THE CONSTITUTIVE MODELS AND COMPUTER CODES AND THEIR REQUIRED RANGES OF APPLICABILITY. COMPUTATIONAL PROCEDURES AND COMPUTER CODES WILL BE REVIEWED IN RELATION WITH THE ALGORITHMIC CAPABILITY, THE ELEMENT MODELLING CAPABILITY AND THE COST EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CODE FORMULATION AND ARRANGEMENT. IN ADDITION, CRITERIA RELATING TO FRACTURE AND DAMAGE MEASURES TO LEAKAGE WILL BE REVIEWED.

THE FINAL OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSED RESEARCH IS TO REVIEW THE STATE-OF-THE-ART AND IDENTIFY AREAS WHERE FURTHER EXPERIMENTAL AND/OR THEORETICAL WORK ARE NEEDED. THE GLOBAL GOAL IS TO ACHIEVE SATISFACTORY ANALYTICAL PREDICTIONS OF THE RESPONSE OF CONCRETE CONTAINMENT STRUCTURES IN SEVERE LOADING CONDITIONS.

THE FINAL OBJECTIVE WILL BE ATTAINED BY COMPLETING THE FOLLOWING PARTIAL OBJECTIVES:
1. DETERMINATION OF THE RANGES OF CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH THE MATERIAL MODELS SOUGHT ARE REQUIRED TO PERFORM (INCLUDING STEEL-CONCRETE INTERACTION).
2. IDENTIFICATION OF MINIMUM FEATURES REQUIRED FROM THE COMPUTATIONAL METHODS AND COMPUTER CODES.
3. DEVELOPMENT OF A SYSTEMATIC CLASSIFICATION OF EXISTING MODELS FOR THERMOMECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR OF CONCRETE.
4. REVIEW OF THE EXISTING THERMOMECHANICAL MODELS FOR CONCRETE (INCLUDING ALL FAILURE MODES).
5. REVIEW OF THE EXISTING MODELS FOR BOND-SLIP.
6. REVIEW OF THE EXISTING ANALYTICAL AND THEORETICAL WORK RELATING MICRO- AND MACRO-CRACKING TO LEAK RATES.
7. REVIEW OF EXISTING COMPUTATIONAL METHODS AND COMPUTER CODES.
8. IDENTIFICATION OF WEAKNESSES IN PRESENT KNOWLEDGE AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR RESEARCH WORK.
