DEVELOPMENT OF CERAMIC MATERIAL HAVING IMPROVED STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS BASED ON SI-AL-O-N, REINFORCED BY SIC, SI3N4 WHISKERS AND ZRO2 PARTICLES.

THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS THE PRODUCTION OF CERAMIC MATERIALS BASED ON SI-AL-O-N, WHICH ARE REINFORCED BY SIC- AND/OR SI3N4-WHISKERS OF FIBRES RESPECTIVELY BY THE INCORPORATION OF ZRO2-PARTICLES. THE PRODUCTION OF THESE MATERIALS IS TO BE CARRIED OUT BY MEANS OF POWDER METALLURGICAL TECHNOLOGY. IN PARTICULAR, THE MODERN TECHNIQUE OF HOT-ISOSTATIC-PRESSING IS TO BE USED. THE MATERIAL,WHEN COMPLETELY DENSIFIED, WILL BE USED IN THE FIELD OF METAL WORKING TOOLS AND WEAR-RESISTANT COMPONENTS.

GENERALLY SPEAKING, THE MOST FRUITFUL APPLICATION OF THIS GROUP OF MATERIALS WILL BE IN THE AREA WHERE HIGH-STRENGTH MATERIALS ARE SOUGHT AND ESPECIALLY WHERE HIGH TEMPERATURE ARE ENCOUNTERED.
