Cel TO COLLECT DATA ON NON-AQUEOUS EXTRACTION CHEMISTRY AND PROVE THE FEASIBILITY OF THE TECHNOLOGY FOR THE EXTRACTION AND REFINING OF COPPER, TIN AND GOLD FROM SCRAP. THIS RESEARCH IS AIMED AT PROVING THE FEASIBILITY OF USING NON-AQUEOUS SOLVENT SYSTTEMS TO EXTRACT HEAVY METALS FROM NON-FERROUS SCRAP, TO PURIFY THOSE METALS BY SOLVENT EXTRACTION AND BY PRECIPITATION, AND TO PROVE LARGE ENERGY SAVINGS COMPARED WITH CONVENTIONAL AQUEOUS AND PYROMETALLURGICAL TECHNOLOGY. PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE EXTRACTION AND REFINING OF METALS WHICH ARE THE SUBJECT OF DIFFICULTIES USING THE EXISTING SEPARATION TECHNIQUES, E.G. COPPER AND COPPER-BASED ALLOYS FROM MIXED DOMESTIC OR MIXED INDUSTRIAL SCRAP, OR OF THE SEPARATION OF HIGH VALUE METALS, E.G. COPPER, TIN AND GOLD FROM SCRAPPED ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS.
