Objective THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE NATURE OF THE IP AND EM PHASE SHIFT EFFECTS, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF ROUTINE PROCEDURE FOR THE LOCATION OF AND DISCRIMINATION BETWEEN DISSEMINATED AND MASSIVE SULPHIDE MINERALISATIONS. TIME DOMAIN IP DECAY CURVES HAVE LIMITED VALUE FOR DISCRIMINATION BETWEEN DIFFERENT TYPES OF MINERAL DEPOSITS BECAUSE OF CURRENT ELECTRODE POLARIZATION EFFECTS AND THE PROBLEM OF DISTINGUISHING AND CORRECTING FOR ELECTROMAGNETIC EFFECTS. PRELIMINARY WORK INDICATES THAT IP AND EM EFFECTS MAY BE DISTINGUISHED BY MEASUREMENTS OF THE PHASE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TRANSMITTED AND OBSERVED ALTERNATING CURRENTS. DETAILED SCIENTIFIC FIELD STUDIES WITH A COMMERCIAL IP-EQUIPMENT WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN AREAS OF KNOWN AND DRILLED MINERALISATION IN VARIOUS GEOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENTS.COMPUTER ASSISTED EQUATION FITTING PROCEDURES AND INVERSION TECHNIQUES WILL BE DEVELOPED IN ORDER TO MATCH THE CAREFULLY CORRECTED FIELD DATA. COUPLING EFFECTS FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES WILL BE STUDIES IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH CRITERIA FOR DISCRIMINATION BETWEEN MINERALISATION OF DIFFERENT KINDS.
