MODELISATION OF THE ORE PROCESSING OPERATIONS

Obiettivo



MATHEMATICAL SIMULATION OF THE ORE COMMINUTION AND CONCENTRATION OPERATIONS (GRAVIMETRIC, MAGNETIC AND FLOTATION). CONNECTIONS BETWEEN SUCCESSIVE PROCESSES, FLOW SHEET DESIGN AND ECONOMIC OPTIMISATION.

MINERAL PROCESSES CONSIST OF SEVERAL STAGES, AS COMMINUTION, CLASSIFICATION AND ENRICHMENT. BUT UNTIL NOW, THE EXISTING SIMULATION OF MINERAL DRESSING OPERATIONS ARE ONLY EFFECTIVE ON SINGLE OPERATIONS ISOLATED FROM THE CIRCUIT THEY BELONG TO.
THOSE MODELISATIONS CAN BE CLASSIFIED IN TWO TYPES :

1) EMPIRICAL STUDIES OF A DEVICE (DIRECTION FOLLOWED BY THE ANGLO SAXONS SINCE 1947 BUT PROGRESSIVELY ABANDONED)

2) STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE EFFICIENCY OF A DEVICE, AS AN APPLICATION OF THE FRENCH RESEARCH ON COAL DRESSING PROCESSES. THIS TECHNIQUE ALLOWS THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC OPTIMISATION OF THE ORE PREPARATION.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO COMPLETE THE EXISTING SET OF MODELS AND PROGRAMS IN ORDER TO INTEGRATE EACH OPERATION IN THE PROCESSING CIRCUIT.
THEREFORE IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO EXTABLISH THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT STAGES.

ECONOMIC OPTIMIZATION AND ADAPTATION OF THE COMPUTER PROGRAMS TO SMALL SIZE COMPUTER UNITS WILL ALSO BE CONSIDERED.

THE PRESENT RESEARCH WILL, THUS, INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING STEPS :

- SIMULATION OF THE WHOLE ENRICHMENT CIRCUIT OF AN ORE, BASED ON AN EXTERNAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCESSES.

- TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC OPTIMIZATION OF NEW OR EXISTING FLOW SHEETS.

- CONCEPTION OF AN INTERACTIVE COMPUTER SYSTEM ALLOWING THE DESIGNER TO INTERVENENT AT EACH STAGE OF THE FLOW SHEET DESIGN.

- ADAPTATION OF THE ALGORITHMS TO SMALL COMPUTER UNITS, WHICH ARE OF LOWER OPERATING COST AND EASIER TO HANDLE SO THAT THE SOFTWARE COULD BE EASILY ADAPTED TO REAL TIME WORKING AND AUTOMATIC PROCESS COMMAD, REGULATION AND CONTROL.

THE PROPOSED RESEARCH WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE LONG EXPERIENCE OF THE UNIVERSITE LIBRE DE BRUXELLES IN PRACTICAL ORE PROCESSING. IT WILL ALSO USE SEVERAL EXISTING SIMULATION PROGRAMS CONCEIVED BY THE MINING DEPARTMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY. THE GEOMINES S.A. WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE RESEARCH BY PROVIDING MINERAL SAMPLES AND APPLYING THE NEW TECHNIQUES TO SOME OF ITS OWN INDUSTRIAL FACILITITIES IN PORTUGAL, RWANDA AND ZAIRE.
