PURIFICATION AND RECOVERY OF METALS FROM CONCENTRATED ACID SOLUTIONS BY ION PRECIPITATE FLOTATION TECHNIQUES.

ION AND PRECIPITE FLOTATION TECHNIQUES ARE USED IN CONCENTRATED ACID SOLUTIONS FOR THE RECOVERY OF VALUES SPECIES, THE ELIMINATION OF IMPURITIES WHICH INTER-FER IN INDUSTRIAL OPERATIONS OR PRESENT A DANGER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT (PURIFICATION) AND THE PRECONCENTRATION OF SOLUTIONS.

ACID SOLUTIONS (SULPHURIC, NITRIC, HYDROCHLORIC) RESULTING FROM ACIDIC ATTACK OF ORES AND LEACHING LIQUORS ARE CONSIDERED.
SEVERAL TYPES OF SURFACTANTS ARE FILED AND TESTED WHICH ARE ABLE TO FORM COMPLEXES IN HIGHLY ACIDIC MEDIA WITH SUCH METAL CATIONS AS RARE EARTH, V, CR, ZR, TI, MO, AS. ION FLOTATION CONSISTS GENERALLY IN USING A SURFACTANT WITH AN OPPOSITE CHARGE TO THE METAL CATION TO BE FLOATED.

THE FOLLOWING POINTS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR EACH ACID MEDIUM :

. METAL CATIONS :
- OXIDATION STATE
- SOLVATION
- CHARGE OF THE COMPLEXES IN WHICH THEY ARE INVOLVED.

. SURFACTANTS

- ACID BASE PROPERTIES
- STABILITY

ONCE THESE FUNDAMENTAL PROPERTIES ARE KNOWN, THE STUDY WILL DEAL WITH :

- THE STABILITY OF THE METAL ION - SURFACTANT ION COMPLEXES
- THE STOICHIOMETRY OF THE COMPLEXATION REACTION
- THE SELECTIVITY (INFLUENCE OF IMPURITIES).

AFTER THE SELECTION OF THE CONVENIENT SURFACTANTS, ION FLOTATION EXPERIMENTS WILL BE DEVISED IN ORDER TO STUDY THE CHANGES IN THE RECOVERING EFFICIENCY WITH THE FOLLOWING PARAMETERS :

- CONCENTRATION OF THE SURFACTANT
- CONCENTRATION OF THE METAL ION
- ION CONCENTRATION
- GAS FLOW-RATE
- TEMPERATURE

EXPERIMENTS ARE REALIZED WITH STANDAR FLOTATION CEELS AND LABORATORY APPARATUS WHICH HAVE BEEN DEVISED DURING THE STUDY OF URANIUM FLOTATION IN PHOSPHORIC ACID MEDIA.

FINALLY THE RECYCLING OF THE USED SURFACTANT IS CONSIDERED. SUCH A PROCEDURE WOULD INDEED ALLOW TO DECRASE THE COST OF THE ION FLOTAION PROCESS.
