METALS BEHAVIOUR IN HYDROTHERMAL SOLUTIONS OF OCEANIC RIDGES (GEOTHERMAL DRILLING OF DJIBOUTI).

Cel



STUDY OF METAL BEHAVIOUR IN HYDROTHERMAL FLUIDS, MECHANISM OF SULFIDE DEPOSITS, EVALUATION OF AMOUNTS OF METAL CONTAINED IN THE LAKE ASSAL GEOTHERMAL BRINE; PRELIMARY STUDY OF RECOVERY OF VALUABLE METALS.

IN THIS PROJECT, AN EXAMPLE OF PRESENT DAY HYDROTHERMAL ORE DEPOSITS WILL BE STUDIED. SOLUTIONS AND MINERAL DEPOSITS WILL BE COLLECTED AT THE ASSAL 1 GEOTHERMAL DRILL HOLE.
CHEMICAL AND ISOTOPIC ANALYSIS OF FLUIDS, MINERALOGICAL, CHEMICAL AND ISOTOPIC ANALYSIS OF ORE DEPOSITS WILL BE PERFORMED. DRILL CORE AND CUTTINGS WILL ALSO BE STUDIED FROM A PETROGRAPHIC AND MINERALOGIC POINT OF VIEW.
OXYGEN AND HYDROGEN ISOTOPE STUDIES ON FRESH AND HYDROTHERMALLY ALTERED BASALTS WILL ALSO BEMADE IN CONJUNCTION WITH CHEMICAL ANALYSIS.

THE COLLECTED DATA WILL BE USED TO IMPROVE OUR KNOWLEDGE OFTHE DIFFERENT STEPS OF THE OVERALL METALLOGENETIC PROCESS THAT TAKE PLACE IN THE VICINITY OF MID OCEANIC RIDGES.

. ORIGIN OF METALS AND SULFUR IN HYDROTHERMAL BRINES
. CHEMICAL BUDGET OF THE BASALT HYDROTHERMAL WATER INTERACTION
. MECHANISM OF METAL TRANSPORT
. MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERS AND PHYSICO-CHEMICAL CONDITIONS OF SULFIDE DEPOSITS.

MEROEVER A PRELIMARY STUDY ON THE INTEREST AND FEASIBILITY OF METAL RECOVERY WILL BE CARRIED OUT.
