INFLUENCE OF ZETA-POTENTIAL ON THE AGGLOMERATION OF STICKIES ON A TISSUE MACHINE USING WASTE

Objetivo



THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS "STICKIES" PROJECT ARE:

1. TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF SUDDEN FELT AND ROLL FOULING ON THE TISSUE MACHINES
2. TO INVESTIGATE THE INFLUENCE OF ZETA-POTENTIAL ON THE FORMATION OF "STICKIES"
3. TO INVESTIGATE THE THEORY THAT A LOW ZETA-POTENTIAL RESULTS IN POOR RETENTION OF ANIONIC PARTICLES ON ANIONICALLY CHARGED FIBRES. THIS RESULTS IN A BUILD-UP OF ANIONIC PARTICLES IN THE WATER CIRCUITS AND A GREATER RISK OF "STICKY" FORMATION DUE TO:

- AGGLOMERATION OF HYDROPHOBIC PARTICLES AROUND HYDROPHOBIC SURFACES
- GROWTH OF "STICKY" PARTICLES PRESENT IN THE WASTE PAPER DUE TO THEIR ACTION AS COLLECTORS
- SUDDEN FLOCCULATION WITH CATIONIC SUBSTANCES
- AND SO ON.

THE PH, CONDUCTIVITY AND ZETA-POTENTIAL OF THE PROCESS WATER WILL BE MEASURED FREQUENTLY AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH "STICKIES" ON THE TISSUE MACHINES. THE INFLUENCE OF VARIOUS CHEMICAL ADDITIVES ON ZETA-POTENTIAL AND "STICKY" FORMATION WILL BE INVESTIGATED IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIND A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN "STICKY" FORMATION, DEPOSIT TENDENCY, FELT AND ROLL FOULING, PH, CONDUCTIVITY, ZETA-POTENTIAL AND THE VARIOUS CHEMICAL ADDITIVES.
