OPTIMIZATION OF BLEACHING AND DEINKING OF WASTE PAPER FOR STRENGTH AND BRIGHTNESS IMPROVEMENT

Objetivo

A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE OF THE RECYCLING RATIO OF WASTE PAPAER (EC : 43%) WILL ONLY BE WITHIN REACH - BECAUSE OF THE HIGH SHARE OF ABOUT 80% OF WASTE PAPER IN WRAPPING PAPER AND BOARD - IF ONE SUCCEEDS IN INCREASING THE USE OF WASTE PAPER FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PRINTING PAPERS.

EC-WIDE ONLY 7% WASTE PAPER IS USED FOR PRINTING PAPERS. IN THIS FIELD ONE CAN EXPECT AN ENORMOUS INCREASE OF THE USE OF WASTE PAPER AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR GROUNDWOOD AND SULPHITE PULP.

CRITERIA FOR THE USE OF DEINKED WASTE PAPER FOR PRINTING PAPERS ARE A HIGH BRIGHTNESS AND PURITY OF THE DEINKED FIBRE-SUSPENSION TOGETHER WITH SUFFICIENT LEVEL OF STRENGTH PROPERTIES.

THE RESEARCH WILL WORK ON THE OPTIMISATION OF THE BLEACHING CONDITIONS FOR DEINKED PULP REGARDING BRIGHTNESS, PURITY AND STRENGTH PROPERTIES.

FOR THAT AN OPTIMISATION OF BOTH THE HYDROSULPHITE AND PEROXIDE BLEACHING PROCEDURE AS WELL AS OF THEIR COMBINATION WILL BE NECESSARY. PULP DISINTEGRATED AND BLEACHED UNDER HIGH CONSISTENCY CONDITIONS IS EXPECTED TO BECOME BRIGHTER WHEN THE PEROXIDE PROCEDURE IS USED IN COMPARISON TO NORMAL METHODS.

TWO DIFFERENT FLOTATION CELLS ON A LABORATORY SCALE ARE AT THE INSTITUTE'S DISPOSAL (SYSTEMS VOITH AND SWEMAC). THUS THE INFLUENCE OF THE AIR CONTENT,ON THE FLOTATION AND THE FLUID DYNAMICS RESPECTIVELY OF THE TWO INSTALLATIONS CAN BE COMPARED.

PARTICULARLY THE REDUCTION OF THE ASH (FILLER) CONTENT, INFLUENCED BY THE AIR CONTENT, IS OF A HIGH IMPORTANCE FOR THE STRENGTH PROPERTIES.

ANOTHER FOCAL POINT OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT LIES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MEASURING DEVICE FOR CLASSIFICATION OF DIRT AND INK PARTICLES IN HANDSHEETS PRODUCED WITH THE DEINKED AND BLEACHED FIBRE SUSPENSIONS. AN ELECTRONIC LINE-SCAN CAMERA AND AN IMAGE ANALYZER SYSTEM CLASSIFIES THE PARTICLES REGARDING THEIR SIZE AND DENSITY.

IF THIS RESEARCH PROJECT TURNS OUT TO BE SUCCESSFUL A SAVING OF RAW MATERIAL COSTS WILL BE GAINED BY USING WASTE PAPER FOR HIGHER PAPER GRADES, LIKE SC-PAPER, WHEREAS THE USE OF DEINKED WASTE PAPER FOR NEWSPRINT WILL RESULT IN SAVINGS OF CHEMICALS AND ENERGY BECAUSE OF ALTERATIONS OF PROCESS CONDITIONS (E.G. HIGH CONSISTENCY DISINTEGRATION).
