TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE FOOD SECTOR : CONSEQUEN CES OF AND ALTERNATIVES TO THE PRESENT DEVELOPMENT

Objectif

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO DEVELOP ALTERNATIVE SCENARIOS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS INDUSTRIES FROM FRAM TO CONSUMER INDICATING PARTICULARY THE SCOPE FOR PUBLIC INFLUENCE OF THE OUTCOME. THE RESEARCH IS BASED ON A LITERATURE REVIEW, INTERVIEWS WITH THOSE INVOLVED IN THE MILK INDUSTRY AND WORKSHPOS WITH DANISH CONSUMER GROUPS.

THE "REACTIVE" SCENARIO IS A PROJECTION BASED ON CURRENT AND EXPECTED FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MILK PRODUCTION AND DAIRY SCETORS. IT FOCUSSES ON TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES SUCH AS THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW BIOTECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATIONS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES. IT ALSO ANALYSES THE POSSIBLE EFFECTS OF FURTHER CHANGES IN EEC AGRICULTURAL POLICIES WITH RESPECT TO THE DAIRY SECTOR. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE FORECAST DEVELOPMENTS ARE ANALYSED WITH REFERENCE TO CONSUMER RELATED ISSUES.
