PHYSICAL MODELLING OF TORCH FIRES

Cel

DEVELOP PROCEDURES WHICH ENABLE RELIABLE AND ACCURATE SIMULATION OF FULL SCALE FIRES IN AN ATMOSPHERIC BOUNDARY LAYER WIND.

TNO'S SPECIFIC TASK WITHIN THE PROJECT WILL BE TO DEVELOP PROCEDURES ACCORDING TO WHICH RELIABLE WIND-TUNNEL SIMULATIONS WITH REAL FLAMES OF FULL SCALE TORCH FIRES CAN BE CARRIED OUT.DURING THE FIRST STAGE OF THE PROJECT SCALING RULES FOR WIND-TUNNEL MODELLING WILL BE DERIVED FROM THEORETICAL ANALYSIS, ASSISTANCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THE SELECTION OF THE SITUATIONS TO BE STUDIED WITHIN THE PROJECT, MEASURING EQUIPMENT FOR THE WIND-TUNNEL EXPERIMENTS WILL BE SELECTED AND WIND-TUNNEL TESTS FOR IDEALIZED SITUATIONS WITHOUT OBSTACLES WILL BE PERFORMED.AT THE END OF THE FIRST STAGE DATA OBTAINED FROM THE WIND-TUNNEL TESTS WILL BE EVALUATED AGAINST FIELD DATA AND DATA FROM NUMERICAL ANALYSIS.
DURING THE SECOND STAGE OF THE PROJECT, DEPENDING ON THE RESULTS FROM THE FIRST STAGE , THE MODELLING TECHNIQUE WILL BE ADJUSTED.AFTEWARDS MORE COMPLEX SITUATIONS WITH SIMPLE OBSTACLES WILL BE STUDIED IN THE WIND TUNNEL.
A FINAL REPORT ON THE TNO ACTIVITIES WILL BE PRODUCED.FURTHER TNO WILL INITIATE THE TEXT OF AN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY ON THE TOTAL JOINT PROJECT, BASED ON THE REPORTS OF THE OTHERS PARTNERS.ALSO RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE "HOT" MODELLING OF FIRES IN WIND TUNNELS WILL BE GENERATED.TNO WILL COORDINATE THE TOTAL JOINT PROJECT.
