Objectif TO ESTABLISH THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF MIST AND CLOUD DROPS, TO DETERMINE THE ACIDITY ACTUALLY OCCURING ON LEAVES, TO STUDY THE EFFECTS ON LEAF STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF REALISTIC EXPOSURES TO ACID MIST. THIS PROJECT AIMS TO TACKLE THE PROBLEM OF ACID MISTS IN A LOGICAL MANNER. FIRST CHEMISTRY OF MIST WILL BE DETERMINED BEFORE EXAMINING THE TRANSFER OF MISTS TO FOLIAGE, A TOPIC INVOLVING A CONSIDERATION OF TRAPPING EFFICIENCY. HAVING BEEN "TRAPPED" WHAT HAPPENS TO THE DROPS AND HOW IS THE CHEMISTRY OF LEAF SURFACE FILMS AFFECTED. ARE THESE SOLUTIONS PHYTOTOXIC AND IF THEY ARE, HOW DO THEY AFFECT THE BEHAVIOUR OF FOLIAGE PARTICULARLY IN REGARD TO WATER LOSS AND THE LEACHING OF NUTRIENTS ?
