Objectif TO FIND THE BEST ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMIC SOLUTION FOR THE TREATMENT METHODS APPLIED TO RAW WOOL SCOURING EFFLUENTS. THE RESEARCH PROJECT CONSIDERS THREE MAIN TREATMENT METHODS FOR RAW WOOL SCOURING EFFLUENTS: 1. MULTI-STAGE EVAPORATION - THIS INVOLVES THE TOTAL TREATMENT OF THE WASTE LIQUOR WITH HIGH PRESSURE STEAM IN A NUMBER OF STAGES LEADING TO A HIGH DEGREE OF HEAT RECOVERY AND CLEAN RE-USABLE WATER RECOVERY, LEAVING A HIGHLY CONCENTRATED, LOW VOLUME WASTE WHICH CAN BE DISPOSED OF DIRECTLY. 2. HIGH-RATE BIOLOGICAL FILTRATION - THE PARTIAL TREATMENT OF THE WASTE LIQUOR VIA PACKED BIOLOGICAL FILTERS RESULTS IN A MUCH REDUCED POLLUTION LOAD. 3. COAGULATION, FLOCCULATION AND ULTRA-FILTRATION - WITH THIS METHOD A WASTE IS OBTAINED WHICH CAN BE DIRECTLY DISPOSED OF OR BURNT AND RE-USABLE PROCESS WATER IS PROVIDED. THIS METHODS WILL BE EVALUATED BY ON-SITE SMALL SCALE PILOT STUDIES WITH EXTENSIVE ANALYTICAL MONITORING.
