Objetivo 1) ELUCIDATION OF DOSE-RESPONSE RELATIONSHIP FOR MERCURY 2) ELUCIDATION OF POLLUTANT METABOLISM IN MAN FOR ARSENIC AND VANADIUM. THE PROJECT IS DIVIDED INTO 3 STUDIES: 1) COMPARISON OF CRITICAL EFFECT LEVEL (INTERNAL DOSE) OF INORGANIC MERCURY ON THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (TREMOR) AND ON VENAL FUCTION IN MAN: THE PREVALENCE OF SIGNS OF CNS DISTURBANCES AND SIGNS OF VENAL DISFUNCTION IN GROUPS OF WORKERS WITH AND WITHOUT EXPOSURE TO INORGANIC MERCURY ARE COMPARED. 2) METABOLISMS OF INORGANIC ARSENIC IN MAN: THE INFLUENCE OF LIVER FUNCTION IN MAN ON THE RATE OF ARSENIC METHYLATION IS INVESTIGATED. 3) EVALUATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EXPOSURE TO VANADIUM AND ITS URINARY EXCRETION IN MAN: A METHOD OF DETERMINING VANADIUM IN URINE BY ELECTROTHERMAL ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROMETRY IS BEING DEVELOPED. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY A STUDY WHICH ATTEMPTS TO RELATE EXTERNAL DOSE (EXPOSURE) TO URINARY EXCRETION IN VANADIUM.
