CLIMATIC IMPACT AND EVOLUTION OF CLOUDS AND AEROSOL

Objectif



THE PROPOSED INVESTIGATION DEALS WITH ASPECT OF THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE RADIATION FIELD WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE PROBLEM OF THE STRATOSPHERE TROPOSPHERE INTERACTION AND THE VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS.

MORE SPECIFICALLY, IT IS CONCERNED WITH THE PRESENCE OF AEROSOL ICE CLOUDS AT THE TROPOPAUSE AND IN THE LOWER STRATOSPHERE, AND WITH THE MODIFICATIONS THAT SUCH A SYSTEM MAY UNDERGO AS A RESULT OF AN INCREASE IN THE CONCENTRATION OF CO2.

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE ELEMENTS OF THE INVESTIGATION:

A) THE STRATOSPHERIC H2O BUDGET AND THE MECHANISMS FOR VERTICAL TRANSPORT OF WATER SUBSTANCE ACROSS THE TROPOPAUSE, CONSIDERING IN PARTICULAR THE EXISTENCE OF THE COLD TRAP.

B) THE NUCLEATION AND CONDENSATION OF WATER SUBSTANCE IN THE LOWER STRATOSPHERE, CONSIDERING THE EXISTENCE OF THE COLD TRAP.

B) THE NUCLEATION AND CONDENSATION OF WATER SUBSTANCE IN THE LOWER STRATOSPHERE, CONSIDERING THE PRESENCE OF SULPHUR BEARING COMPOUNDS.

C) THE MODIFICATION TO THE THERMAL REGIMES AND TO THE COMPOSITION OF THE ATMOSPHERE DUE TO INCREASE IN THE CO2 CONCENTRATION AND TO VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS.

D) MEASUREMENTS OF GASEOUS AND PARTICULATE EMISSIONS FROM MEDITERRANEAN VOLCANOES.

E) CLIMATIC EFFECTS CAUSED BY THE ERUPTION OF MT. ST. HELEN
