Objective THE AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE THAT A BROAD RANGE OF LOW QUALITY BULK AND WASTE MATERIALS CAN BE BURNED IN A CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED BED COMBUSTOR AS ECONOMICALLY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND AS HARD COAL, THAT THEY CAN REPLACE HIGH QUALITY HYDROCARBONS IN ENERGY PRODUCTION AND THAT THEIR HANDLING (PREPARATION AND CHARGING) PRESENTS NO MAJOR PROBLEMS. THE RESULTS OF THE R&D WORK ARE NEEDED TO PROVIDE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION DATA FOR THE HANDLING AND INCINERATION OF WASTE AND BULK MATERIALS AND TO PROVIDE AN ACCURATE PROGNOSIS OF NOXIOUS EMISSIONS AND THEIR REDUCTION. THE RESEARCH RESULTS WILL BE USED BY THE APPLICANT, A MANUFACTURER OF POWER GENERATION PLANTS, AS WELL AS BY OPERATORS OF SUCH PLANTS FOR TECHNICAL AND FINANCIAL PLANNING WHEN INCORPORATING CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED-BED COMBUSTION USING WASTE AND BULK MATERIALS. THE RESULTS WILL ALSO PROVIDE THE LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITIES WITH EVIDENCE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL SOUNDNESS OF THE PROCESS AND CAN SERVE AS A BASIS FOR DISCUSSIONS ON DIRECTIVES AND LIMITS.
