Objective THE DEVELOPMENT OF EQUIPMENT ABLE TO BURN LOW GRADE SOLID FUELS WITH ACCEPTABLE EMISSION LEVELS WILL GREATLY INCREASE OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDUSTRIAL USE OF SUCH FUELS. THE PROJECT AIMS AT THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INDUSTRIAL SIZE FLUIDBED BOILER, ABLE TO BURN HIGH SULPHUR COALS, LIGNITES AND OTHER SOLID FUELS, WHILST MEETING STRICT EMISSION CONTROL STANDARDS. THIS IS TO BE ACHIEVED BY IN-BED SULPHUR CONTROL AND THE ASSOCIATED DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH EFFICIENCY MULTICYCLONE SEPARATORS TO HANDLE THE PRODUCTS OF COMBUSTION. THE ASSOCIATED COMMERCIAL OBJECTIVE IS TO ARRIVE AT DESIGNS WHICH ARE COST EFFECTIVE IN TERMS OF COMBUSTION EFFICIENCY, OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE COSTS, CAPITAL COST AND RELIABILITY IN SERVICE.
