Obiettivo AN ABSORPTION HEAT PUMP AND AN ABSORPTION HEAT TRANSFORMER SHALL BE COUPLED TOGETHER TO GIVE A HEAT PUMP - TRANSFORMER. IN A LABORATORY UNIT IT SHALL BE SHOWN THAT SUCH A CYCLE IS SUITABLE FOR RECOVERY OF WASTE HEAT OF A CHEMICAL PROCESS FOR INSTANCE. THE MAIN AIM IS TO INVESTIGATE THE FEASIBILITY AND THE STABILITY OF CYCLE USING THE WORKING FLUID PAIR H2O/LIBR. The development of a heat pump heat transformer for industrial applications was tackled in the followingphases:predesign and choice of cycle;design of complete absorption cycle;construction of components;assembly of laboratory test plant;commissioning of test plant;measurement campaign;technical improvements;final evaluation and analysis of data. The heat pump transformer cycle is perfectly adapted for the heat recovery of distillation processes working near 100 C. It is a 3-stage absorption cycle with 2 independent working fluid cycles and 3 solution cycles. The output capacity of the test plant was approximately 60 kW and the coefficient of performance was 4.2 with the newly designed absorbers exhibiting good heat transfer coefficients. The transient behaviour of the test plant was also studied in order to obtain the time constants for the reaction of the heat pump transformer upon a sudden change.
