THE USE OF SOIL AS A HEAT SOURCE AND HEAT STORAGE MEDIUM FOR HEAT PUMPS

THE OPERATION OF A SYSTEM WITH SIMPLE UNSHIELDED SOLAR COLLECTORS (14,2 M2), A SMALL HEAT PUMP FOR DOMESTIC HOT WATER (ABOUT 1 KW) AND A LARGE HEAT PUMP (6 KW, 45 DEGREES C) FOR DOMESTIC HEATING VIA A SYSTEM OF RADIATORS IS BEING INVESTIGATED. THE LOW GRADE HEAT FOR THE ELECTRICAL HEAT PUMP IS EXTRACTED FROM THE SOIL WITH A SYSTEM OF 8 TUBES OF 14 M LONG. THREE DIFFERENT DRILLING METHODS WERE STUDIED OF WHICH THE COST VARIED FROM 50 DKR/M TO 170 DKR/M. THIS SYSTEM HAS NOW BEEN INSTALLED IN A HOUSE OF 137 M2 AND MEASUREMENTS ARE BEING CARRIED OUT. UP TILL NOW COP VALUES OF THE SYSTEM VARIED BETWEEN 2,7 AND 5 WITH AN AVERAGE VALUE OF 3,3, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT POWER NEEDED FOR PUMPS, VENTILATORS, ETC. THE 1 KW TAPWATER HEAT PUMP HAD AN SEASONALLY AVERAGED COP OF 2,8. THIS WORK IS COORDINATED WITH WORK DONE BY TNO, NETHERLANDS (SEE CONTRACT EE-A4-033).
