PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT AND DEMONSTRATION OF A PILOT FLEXIBLE CELL FOR DIVERSIFIED MANUFACTURING OF CLOTHING

Objectif

The objective of the project was the development of a new industrial sewing machine of far greater flexibility than normally available. The machine was made up of 2 modules with an independent top and bottom mechanism with independent drives for each, connected only by hydraulically driven pipes. A prototype was demonstrated but a real commercial system or pilot laboratory system would be different and serious shortcomings involving noise, synchronized speeds and fluid leakage are still unresolved.
THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP NEW SEWING TECHNOLOGIES IN WHICH MODULES LIKE NEEDLES, BOBBINS, LOOPERS ETC. WILL BE INTERCHANGEABLE AND CAN RUN WITHOUT A CENTRAL DRIVE MOTOR.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT HAVE SHOWN, THAT THE USE OF AN HYDRAULIC DRIVE APPEARS FEASIBLE. TO BUILD A MODEL CAPABLE OF SEWING, THE HEAD OF A CUSTOMARY SEWING MACHINE SHOULD BE USED FOR THE SEWING ELEMENTS. THE CONCEPT FOLLOWED UP TILL NOW - THE ELIMINATION OF THE C-CASING - WILL CONTINUE TO BE FOLLOWED.
