SUBLIQUIDUS REMELTING OF HIGH-ALLOY STEEL WITH CONSUMABLE ELECTRODES.

Objective

THERE IS ONLY ONE PROJECT UNDER THIS HEADING. AN ATTEMPT WILL BE MADE TO PRODUCE INGOTS FROM HIGH-ALLOY STEEL WITH A WIDE SOLIDIFICATION RANGE (HIGH-SPEED TOOL STEELS, STAINLESS STEELS) BY REMELTING IN THE ELECTRON BEAM FURNACE. REMELTING WILL BE CARRIED OUT BELOW THE LIQUIDUS TEMPERATURE.

THE STEELS S 6-5-2 AND X 19 CRNINB 18 9 WILL BE REMELTED:

A) IN THE TWO-ELECTRODE VACUUM ARC FURNACE AND
B) IN THE ELECTRON BEAM FURNACE.

THE AIM WILL BE TO OBTAIN STEEL WITH A FINE SOLIDIFICATION STRUCTURE WHICH IS EQUIVALENT TO A STRUCTURE OBTAINED BY POWDER METALLURGY. SURFACE ULTRASONIC AND METALLOGRAPHIC TESTS ARE PLANNED.
