RECOVERY OF EXPANSION ENERGY OF NATURAL GAS IN A GAS FIRED DUAL-CYCLE PUBLIC POWER STATION

Objectif

Recover expansion of natural gas in a large power plant.
The construction of the Gas Expansion Turbine (GET) may be called a success. The installation meets the technical expectations. During the initial working the installation had an availability of 100%. At a framed up interruption of the GET the combined cycle installation remained in operation normally. The maximum power given by the supplier isn't met during the initial operation.
A net extra yearly electricity production of about 25.000 MWh is produced with this machine without extra fuel consumption. This corresponds with the expected savings in the design-phase and means a saving on CO2 emission of 10.000 ton CO2.
Use of modified steam turbine expanding gas in two stages: from 68 bar to 17 bar for use in gas turbine and from 17 bar to 7 bar for use in the existing boiler. Total maximum capacity is 9110 KWE. Average output over 700 H/Y is 4270 KWE. For gas preheating cogenerated steam from the power station is used. Specific investment is 465 ECU/KWE as compared to 553 ECU/KWE for the much smaller unit (500 KWE) of project EE./00247/86/DE.
Innovation use of a modified two stage steam turbine for natural gas expansion to two different levels (17 and 7 bar).
