CONTROL SYSTEM FOR USE IN THERMAL WASTE ENERGY IN DISTRICT HEATING

Objectif

Optimal use of waste heat sources so to reduce costs and save energy of the district heating network of Nyborg.
Description : The Nyborg DH is characterized by disseminated heating power and pumping stations, among which an incineration plant and a chemical plant. A central computer communicating with the different stations via the public telecom network, electrically actuated motor valves on different points of the network and monitoring could allow to achieve the optimal use of disposable waste heat, while reducing pumping costs and heat losses.
Innovation : Automatic optimal control of multi-heat sources district heating.
A) District heating station "Skovparken", the additional equipment installed and taken into use. Software installed and tested.
B) District heating station "Gasvaerksvej", the additional equipment installed and taken into use, except 2 boilers and 2 main-circulation pumps which has to be replaced during 1989. Software for the station in all are installed and partly tested.
C) District heating station "Fladet" is still on work and we expect this station to be fully installed and taken into use February 1989.
D) District heating station. Installation started. At this moment we look forward to a report concerning the environment and the incineration plant. The report will determine the future of this plant. Finished installment and taken into use of the two gasfired boilers and the main pump arrangement are expected to take place March/April 1989, by steering of the SRO.
E) District heating station "Halvej". Work on this station will start February 1989 and are expected to be finished April 1989.
F) Valve construction-works and wells are installed by 80 % and taken the rest of the equipment can be taken into use March 1989. There have been changing in the original plan caused by a larger alteration of district heat pipes and signal cables in connection with the construction of the bridge over Storebaelt.
By the assistance of that part of the SRO plant, which have already been taken into use, following results has been obtained :
1) The power taking from the two waste heat plants has during 1988 been increased by 10,3% compared with 1987.
2) The total produced power from Nyborg Public Works has caused to the improved steering and control during 1988 been reduced by 10,1% compared with 1987.
3) The total reduction in consumption of fossile fuels has during 1988 been 28,9% compared with 1987.
Above mentioned results are expected to be further improved during 1989 and will furthermore lead to a larger energy saving and therefore to a shorter payback time than expected.
File removed to store on completion of project.
The district heating network is characterized by decentralized thermal power stations and pump stations, among others a refuse destructor plant and a chemical plant. A central computer connected with the different stations through the public telecommunication network, electrically operated motor valves placed in various points of the (telecommunication) network, and reduced together with the reduction in thermal loss.
Innovation : Automatic optimal control of a district heating system consisting of many thermal sources.
