Objetivo The aim of this feasibility study is to produce the conceptual design of a phosphoric acid fuel cell power generation demonstration plant. The study will be sufficiently detailed to enable the outline planning to be done for the subsequent phases in a project to build such a plant. In a fuel cell, chemical energy is directly transformed into electrical energy whereas traditional systems transform chemical energy into heat and the heat into electrical energy. The efficiency of first generation phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) power generation systems is 42-44% which is well above that of most other power generation systems. In addition the same high efficiency can be obtained for small plants of the order of 100 KW and is maintained at partial load down to 30%.The feasibility study will cover the following areas :- General plant requirements;* module concept and demonstration plant size* electrical grid and fuel supply characteristics* operating and control requirements- material and thermal balances- Fuel cell stack and power module characteristics- Component lists and european availibility- General plant arrangement- Servicing requirements- Preliminary schedule for the detailed design, component procurement and construction- Preliminary cost estimate.
