Objective The scope of the tests was to verify the feasibility of laying down a pipeline in deep waters (up to 550 mt), focusing on the relevant laying procedure and acquiring at the same time a wide range of data. In order to have the largest possible amount of information, it was decided to lay two different sections of pipeline (12" and 16") having a length of 3.2 km and 3.5 km respectively. Both sections have been laid down at the maximum depth and in such a way to cross flat and uneven areas. The other main characteristics of the pipes used are: - thickness (16") 17.48 mm - thickness (12") 15.88 mm - materials according to api std 5lx-x52 and the to special specifications - external coating (for testing only) selected in the following types: Polythene, neoprene (2 kinds), epossidic resin.
